The
Iron & Wine show at the Larimer Lounge was
excellent, and as usual, a late one. Patrick McKinney
opened the set with an amazing display of Fahey-esque
guitar virtuosity. He also supports Sam Beam and
sister Sarah, and proved adept on banjo and lap
steel in the patented Iron & Wine mix. The
audience was incredibly quiet and transfixed-
it's great when everyone knows they're seeing
something special. This show made up for the band's
previous visit to Denver, when a blizzard of three
feet kept most of us from being able to make the
journey. Highlights included a surprise cover
of "Smokestack Lightning," and a sweet
version of the Flaming Lips "Waiting For
A Superman". It'll be packed next time!
The poster was done in two different variations
for the fun of it, some are orange and dark blue,
and some are a purple/green split-fountain fade
and the same dark blue. Thanks to the Larimer
Lounge for great sound and everything. |
